Other Ski Areas

Livigno isn't the only ski resort in Europe of course and we know that many people visit several resorts in one season or may stay in two or more on a holiday and some have taken up the popular ski safari options in multi locations with a gastronomic and or exercise focus.

With such a wealth of skiing opportunities, where would you ski and where are the best places!  There are resorts in France, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, in fact anywhere you find mountains with snow!

However closer to home famous names and resorts abound in Italy and its neighbour Switzerland. The famous mountain ranges of the Alps and Dolomites are the playground of snowboaders and skiiers all winter and for hikers in the summer.  Italy has many resorts, Cortina, Courmayer, Madesimo, Bormio, Passo Tonale in the Vale de Sole, Cervinia and many more. Many of these are linked by geography and even ski runs.

For example take Cervinia, which is not the prettiest town, but looks up to the majestic southern face of the Matterhorn. The altitude however at 2,050m in the village and 3,883m at the top lift,  gives it some of the most reliable snow cover in Europe, with long blue and red runs. It’s ideal for beginners, intermediates and families.

Better skiers will gravitate to the Zermatt side of the joint 57-lift ski area. Here Zermatt stands alone in its approach to business. A beautiful car free village with the Matterhorn standing proud and making it presence know at the head of the valley.
